For me, the key point is that Christ did not give Himself up to make the Church happy or comfortable. He sacrificed Himself to justify His wife to Him, then washed away the parts that were not compatible with Him and presented her back to himself as the perfect wife.
After Christ’s sacrifice, we are sanctified by aligning ourselves with His priorities and following His commands; alighting our priorities with His priorities. We are to work with Him, not against Him.
Sex is the largest factor that differentiates marriage from other earthly relationships. The marriage begins with sex and is a continual affirmation of the covenant. In this and other areas of marriage, the goal is to be one-flesh in all areas of the marriage. The best way to achieve this unity is for the husband to lead in following Christ’s will and his wife to fully submit in following him.
